MOHAMMEDREZA MAYGHANI
Né en 1995, Mohammadreza Mayghani est un réalisateur, scénariste et producteur iranien.
Il est titulaire d’une licence en littérature dramatique de la Sooreh University of Arts.
En 2017, il cofonde Menisn Film Studio et écrit et réalise la même année son premier court métrage, Cleaner, qui sera ensuite présenté dans plusieurs festivals internationaux.
En 2020, il écrit et produit le court métrage Spotted Yellow, réalisé par Baran Sarmad et sélectionné au Festival de Locarno.
Il écrit, produit et réalise ensuite le court métrage Orthodontics, présenté en Compétition officielle au Festival de Cannes en 2021. Le film s’inspire de l’expérience personnelle de Mohammadreza lorsqu’il était adolescent et de la manière dont le port d’un appareil dentaire a marqué cette période de sa vie. Le film sera ensuite présenté au Festival de Sundance en 2022.
En 2023, Mayghani est sélectionné pour la Résidence du Festival de Cannes, où il développe son premier long métrage, Diba, qui remporte le Prix du Pitch de la Résidence. La même année, il est également sélectionné pour la Locarno Film Academy.
Son dernier court métrage, Yo Yo (2025), est présenté en première mondiale dans la section Pardi di Domani – Compétition internationale du 78e Festival de Locarno. Inspiré d’une expérience personnelle, le film explore la frontière fragile entre réalité et imagination à travers un voyage dans le sud de l’Iran.
Born in 1995, Mohammadreza Mayghani is an Iranian director, screenwriter and producer.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in Dramatic Literature from Sooreh University of Arts.
In 2017, he co-founded Menisn Film Studio and, that same year, wrote and directed his first short film, Cleaner, which went on to screen at several international film festivals.
In 2020, he wrote and produced the short film Spotted Yellow, directed by Baran Sarmad and selected for the Locarno Film Festival.
He then wrote, produced and directed the short film Orthodontics, which was in Official Competition at the Cannes Film Festival in 2021. The story relates Mohammadreza’s personal experience as a teenager and how orthodontics affected that period of his life. The film later screened at the Sundance Film Festival in 2022.
In 2023, Mayghani was selected for the Résidence du Festival de Cannes, where he developed his first feature film, Diba, which won the residency’s Pitching Award. The same year, he was also selected for the Locarno Film Academy.
His latest short film, Yo Yo (2025), premiered in the Pardi di Domani – International Competition at the 78th Locarno Film Festival. Inspired by a personal experience, the film explores the fragile boundary between reality and imagination through a journey across southern Iran.
